Researchers who study Cross River gorillas in the wild say the apes are renowned for their secrecy. “A person can study these animals for years and never even catch a glimpse of the gorillas,” said Christopher Jameson, Director of WCS’s Takamanda Mone Landscape Project.
But recently, remote cameras set up in Cameroon’s Kagwene Gorilla Sanctuary captured an astounding scene: eight Cross River gorillas taking a casual walk in the woods. Just 250 of these apes remain in the wild, and the video represents the first time the critically endangered species has been filmed by camera trap.
